§ FAQ

Straight answers.

The most common questions we hear from homeowners, estate managers and installers.

How does Rainmaker® activate?

The Rainmaker® system is manually activated whenever wildfire conditions require roof protection. Open the supply valve or start the water pump; water flows through the modular network and the flexible sprinklers saturate the roof and surrounding protection zone. Maintain water flow until the wildfire threat has passed. Future automatic activation options may become available as additional accessories.

What water pressure is required?

The Rainmaker® system is designed to operate with a minimum water pressure of 2 bar at the system inlet, within an operating band of 2–6 bar. If the available site pressure is below 2 bar, an appropriately sized inline pressure pump should be installed to reach the required operating pressure.

Why does Rainmaker use pressure-regulated sprinkler heads?

Pressure-regulated heads maintain a consistent outlet pressure across the network, even where inlet pressure varies. That keeps the droplet size, flow rate and spray radius uniform on every head — so the first module on the run behaves the same as the last, and coverage stays predictable across the whole roof.

Why are large rain-like droplets better than mist?

Large, rain-like droplets carry further, resist wind drift and reach the roof surface where saturation actually happens. Fine mist is easily displaced by hot updrafts and cross-winds during a wildfire event, and much of it evaporates before it lands. Rainmaker's heads are engineered to produce a large-droplet pattern for consistent wetting under real fire-front conditions.

How much water does each sprinkler use?

Each Rainmaker® sprinkler head delivers a nominal flow of approximately 750 L/h at the design operating pressure. A standard 6 m module carries two heads, so a single module draws in the region of 1 500 L/h. Total system flow scales linearly with the number of installed modules and is confirmed in the Preliminary Protection Design Report.

Where can the Rainmaker® system be installed?

The Rainmaker® Modular Roof Protection System can be installed on roof ridges or exterior walls of residential homes, thatch roofs, safari lodges, farms and agricultural buildings, factories, warehouses, distribution centres and commercial properties.

What water source does it need?

Rainmaker connects to municipal water, boreholes, water storage tanks, dams or reservoirs. Where water pressure is below the minimum operating pressure, an appropriately sized pressure pump should be installed. Pipework is supplied in a standard colour and may be painted or colour-matched by the customer after installation if preferred.

Can it be retrofitted to existing homes?

In almost every case, yes. Our modular design was purpose-built for retrofit deployment on existing roof structures.

How do I access the installation instructions?

Every Rainmaker® system includes a unique QR code that links directly to the latest online Installation Guide and Installation Video. This means the instructions, updates and improvements always remain current — no printed booklets or memory sticks to replace.

Can Rainmaker® reduce roof temperatures in extreme heat?

Yes. Running the system during extreme heat wets the roof surface, and evaporative cooling lowers the surface temperature. That reduces heat transfer into the building and improves indoor comfort — the same ridge-mounted network you install for wildfire protection.

Can I use the system to clean my rooftop solar panels?

Yes. The overlapping spray pattern rinses dust, pollen and debris from rooftop solar panels, which helps maintain generation efficiency and reduces manual cleaning and maintenance.

Where are you based?

Rainmaker® is a South African company. The Modular Roof Protection System is designed and engineered locally for African wildfire, heat and dust conditions.
